Juan Mata played for 75 minutes of Manchester United’s crunch FA Cup quarter-final clash against Brighton on Saturday, where the Red Devils failed to convince but still ran out 2-0 winners.
That sets up a semi-final meeting with Tottenham and the Spanish international – valued at £27m by Transfermarkt – looked ahead to that meeting as well as reviewing a tumultuous week at Old Trafford in his latest blog post.
United were faced with three must-win home fixtures and won two – beating Liverpool before seeing off the Seagulls – but lost out in the most important, against Sevilla in the Champions League and the fallout from that defeat was enormous.
Mourinho launched into a bizarre rant on Friday before criticising his players despite Saturday’s win, with Luke Shaw named as well.
The focus of Mata’s message was winning together and losing together, which some might view as a pointed message to Mourinho, who has drawn criticism for his treatment of Shaw.
The United fans had another focus in response; they want to see more of Mata in the first-team and we’ve taken a closer look at the best responses…
