Man United and Liverpool target plays down rumours

Manchester United and Liverpool target Ivan Rakitic has distanced himself from speculation of a move away from Sevilla by claiming that he is settled at the club.

The Croatian midfielder has been the subject of intense speculation over the course of the past few weeks, with the Premier League trio believed to be three of a number of sides watching his situation.

Rakitic has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, but is thought to be available for the right price with Sevilla currently struggling financially due to a lack of European football this term and the fact that he has just 18 months left on his contract.

However, the 25-year-old says that he is happy at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium and that he is not thinking about a move:

“Right now I’m only passionate about Sevilla – I’m not concerned with any other team in another country. Since the beginning of this season I have taken the responsibility as captain and my family gives me strength, courage and will.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.

“I have a very good relationship with [manager Unai] Emery – we talk every day, and I like to feel the confidence of my coach and the club.

“I have connected with Sevilla and Spain, because I feel happy in my home. I have the love of my wife and daughter, who came into my world in this city.

“If one is happy, football is also easier. There is no tension over my renewal because there is still one and half years left, but since the club have taken this gesture (to try to renew), it is a great honour for me.”
