We’re in the height of international break wilderness, folks. With half of the allotted games gone, we just have half remaining before club action returns with a bang next weekend, but, believe it or not, there were lessons to be learnt.
We’ll kick off with England’s 3-0 beating of Scotland. Although the scoreline was pretty comprehensive, the performance wasn’t quite so, with three headers – from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill – overshadowing some shaky moments at the back and a few key saves from Joe Hart. The result is likely to secure Gareth Southgate a few years in charge of England, but the real test of where this team is at will come against Spain.
Away from international football, news broke on the weekend that Man United players are the highest paid on the planet. Research revealed that each player at Old Trafford is receiving, on average, £110,000-per-week in wages, putting them ahead of they counterparts at Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. That’s a lot of money for playing in the Europa League!
