Man United plan to hijack Arsenal’s La Liga raid

Manchester United plan to beat Arsenal to the signing of Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Brazilian centre-half has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this week, with the Express claiming he is just hours away from a move to London.

But according the the Daily Star, Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal is also keen on the defender and is ready to try and hijack Arsenal’s move for him.

The Daily Star claim Van Gaal is a huge admirer of the 24-year-old and is willing to match any offers the Gunners make for him this month.

It was being reported by the Daily Star yesterday than the defender had agreed to move to Arsenal and that his agent had flown in to England for talks with the north London club.

But if Man United’s interest is concrete, then Arsene Wenger may be forced to rush through a deal to ensure his Premier League rival doesn’t get in on the deal.
