West Bromwich Albion are now in pole position to make a deadline day move for Manchester United star Darren Fletcher after his switch to West Ham United fell through, Mirror reports.
The 31-year-old was tipped to sign a three-year contract to join the Hammers, but the transfer collapsed, leaving Tony Pulis to consider making a move to reinforce his squad.
“We need to bring players in and we are working hard to bring players in,” Pulis said.
“We will have to wait and see and then go from there.
“There are certain areas that we need to strengthen but it is getting the right players in and that is very, very difficult.”
Louis van Gaal earlier revealed that Darren Fletcher would have a limited role this season, playing up the chances of the experienced midfielder leaving Old Trafford.
Fletcher was a prominent figure for the Red Devils during pre-season, but as the current campaign went on; his role became limited due to the high level of competition in the middle of the United park.
Having spent 12 years at his current side, his contract is set to expire in the summer, and it is unlikely that the Scotland international will not be signing a new deal to further extend his stay.
