Man United vs Man City – the top FIVE derby moments

As tonight’s massive game approaches, a rivalry is revisited. The Manchester derby has developed into one of the more entertaining and eventful derbies in modern football in recent years, with plenty of drama and controversy expected.

The two clubs find themselves in vastly contrasting positions in the table this season, however much more is at stake than three points.

5. Dennis Law’s backheel (1974)

Law’s outrageous strike condemned United to relegation.

 4. Cantona’s brace (1993)

After trailing 2-0 at half time, United came roaring back to win 3-2 thanks to a Cantona brace. The result left Ferguson on course for his first double.

3. FA Cup semi-final (2011)

An enthralling and dramatic spectacle which saw Berbatov miss a guilt-edged chance, Yaya Toure grab the winner, Nani hit the post, and Balotelli being his normal self after the final whistle.

2. Owen’s last gasp winner (2009)

After Craig Bellamy had equalised, it looked as if the sides would share a point. It wasn’t to be however, as City fell victim to ‘Fergie time’ as Michael Owen struck in the 95th minute to give United a breathtaking 4-3 victory.

1. Rooney gets on his bike (2011)

Rooney’s sublime bicycle kick won the match for United with 12 minutes to go in the 2011 derby at Old Trafford.
