Manchester United star Anthony Martial has stated that he needs to add more goals to his game if he is to be in the same league as former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Old Trafford outfit splurged on the France international in the summer, with the former Monaco man already a critical member of Louis van Gaal’s squad.
Martial has carried much of the brunt of goalscoring responsibility, especially with Wayne Rooney injured.
Despite this, Van Gaal has opted to play the youngster in wide areas at times this season, rather than his preferred striker role.
Martial has stated that he wants to score more goals but does not mind if he is selected to play on the flanks rather than centrally.
“I am a striker, but I love playing wide. The main thing is wherever I play I enjoy it and help the team. I must continue to work hard in training,” Martial told Sky Sports.
“I need to think more like a goalscorer because sometimes I get so immersed in the game because I love general play so much.
“Someone like Ronaldo focuses on scoring to progress perhaps I need to think more about scoring.”
Martial will play an important role in today’s Manchester derby, with his side in dire need of a positive result at the Etihad Stadium if they are qualify for next season’s Champions League.
