Having earned an impressive 2-1 victory over Tottenham in mid-week, Manchester United face another decisive game on Saturday afternoon when they visit the home of their noisy neighbours, Manchester City.

Victory against Jose Mourinho's side moved them onto 21 points in the Premier League from their first 15 games, but they face an intimidating proposition in taking on City at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola's men are 11 points ahead of their Manchester rivals, and there will be scrutiny on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once again.

The Times claimed that ahead of the clash against Spurs, United's players urged the club's hierarchy not to sack the Norwegian, and so a result against City would really go a long way to vindicating that stance. With the schedule getting busier by the week, Solskjaer may well decide to change things up at the weekend, but he will no doubt be tempted to keep things the same.

Man Utd's potential line-up to face Man City

A formation that has only been used twice by Solskjaer this season, the United manager may be inclined to go back to it on Saturday. The 5-3-2 has been deployed against Liverpool at home in the Premier League, and away to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils picked up a draw against Jurgen Klopp's side, before knocking out Frank Lampard's team in the latter.

It appears to be a favoured tactic for the big games, and if Solskjaer turns to it once more, it could raise some interesting team selections. David de Gea will no doubt start in goal, but in defence, Axel Tuanzebe could be drafted in following his return from injury to partner Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to make up a back-three. That could then allow Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams to operate as wing-backs.

Scott McTominay and Fred's midfield partnership was hailed by Solskjaer earlier this season, and they will once again play an important role on Saturday. Jesse Lingard's improved form in the last couple of games may well see him keep his place and play in the number ten role, whilst Marcus Rashford and Daniel James could form a strike partnership as they did against both Liverpool and Chelsea. That means the returning Anthony Martial may well have to settle for a place on the bench.

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that this key man would have fitted well into the club's most historic teams.
