According to The Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid are planning a sensational transfer to bring Sergio Aguero back to the Vicente Calderon.

What's the story?

Atletico have a strong history in developing, and then selling, world class striking talent. The likes of Torres, Falcao, Diego Costa and of course Aguero all enjoyed prolific seasons with the Madrid side before moving on for massive transfer fees.

Now it seems that Atleti forward, Antoine Griezmann will be the latest name to join that list with Barcelona poised to match Griezmann's £87million release clause.

Should Griezmann make the move to Catalonia, Atleti will be forced to enter the transfer market to find a player equally capable of contributing 27 goals a season.

At the top of their apparent wish-list, Sergio Aguero.

Could it happen?

Marca have reported that in anticipation of Griezmann moving on, Atleti have contacted Aguero's representatives to assess his possible inclusion in the team for next season. The forward is understood not to have dismissed the option of a return.

Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, admitted speaking to Griezmann's agent earlier this week reports The Mail Online. Batomeu told Radio Station RAC1:

"I have bumped into [Griezmann] occasionally in the Balearic Islands. I have not spoke to him this year but I did speak to his agent in October."

Aguero swapped Madrid for Manchester seven years ago and went on to become City's all time top goalscorer, but now with the player approaching 30, could City decide to let him go?

Why would Aguero leave?

Aguero - who for the most part of his City career has been accustomed to being a guaranteed starter - has had to compete this season with the dynamic 21-year-old striker, Gabriel Jesus.

The Argentinian is understood to be looking for reassurance over game-time in the upcoming season and despite the scintillating form that saw him hit 30 goals in 39 games this season, Guardiola is apparently unable to guarantee him a starting spot.

The Sun claim that Guardiola is looking to the future and wants to give his young forwards - Jesus (21) Sane (22) and Sterling (23) - more game time together to develop their on-the-pitch relationship.

Like Aguero, Jesus will want to play as much as possible and Atletico are ready to take advantage of the situation.
