Cavani’s representatives dismiss departure claims, amid City interest

Edinson Cavani, Napoli striker

Edinson Cavani’s representatives have hit back at claims that the striker is likely to leave Napoli in the summer, with Manchester City among a host of top clubs interested, ESPN reports.

Mino Raiola, an agent who represents the likes of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, made the claims which if true could mean Cavani is available in the summer for his buy out clause in the region of £51million.

Raiola was reported as saying, “For now Cavani will stay but I wouldn’t be so sure about that once June arrives”.

“I’m sure there are clubs ready to pay [the release fee]. But only five clubs in the world can afford to do that – Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain.”

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is believed to be a long term admirer of the 25-year-old Uruguayan striker, and would likely be interested if he did become available despite the array of attacking options already at his disposal.

However Cavani’s agent Claudio Anellucci hit back at the claims that his striker, who signed a new deal at the Stadio San Paolo at the start of the season, was ready to leave.

“I thought Raiola was an agent. Reading what he said about Cavani, it seems he is also a wizard,” he told Italian station RadioRadio.

“I am not accustomed to predicting the future of my clients, let alone anyone else’s players.”

For now Cavani isn’t going anywhere, but this could be one to watch over the course of the summer.
