The future of Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi remains in doubt as the club desperately seek to extend the player’s contract beyond this summer, says La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Roberto Mancini is said to be a long-term admirer of his countryman and has urged the Man City board to sanction a move for De Rossi.
The current halt in negotiations at the Rome club is said to be over a minimum fee release clause which the player is insisting on having placed into his new contract.
De Rossi is particularly worried about the club’s ability to return to the Champions League in the near future and would like to negotiate a set fee which would allow him to move on within the next couple of years.
De Rossi is exactly the type of midfielder Mancini feels can push City over the finish line to the title. A combative leader on the pitch and an alternative to Yaya Toure, who is currently away on international duty.
Whether a deal can be struck for the transfer of De Rossi remains to be seen, as the player continues to confess his loyalty to Roma and desire to win in the capital.
