The 20-year-old emerged as one of European football’s most exciting youngsters over the course of last season, bagging eight goals and six assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances to earn a slot in Germany’s Euro 2016 squad.
The three-cap international was linked with Manchester City frequently last season and particularly after the Etihad outfit announced Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola as their next manager in February.
This morning, several sources from Germany and England – including The Sun – reported that City had sealed Sane’s signature in a £40million transfer, beating the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich to his services.
But Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has adamantly denied an agreement with the Premier League club, worth £40million or any other sum.
As quoted by Manchester Evening News, he told German publication BILD; “The story is incorrect, nothing has changed with Leroy Sane.”
