Champions League group stage games don’t get bigger than this. The favourites for the competition host the fourth favourites; the draw has provided us with a pre-Christmas Champions League treat.
While we could be watching several one-sided fixtures tonight, we can be certain that this will not be a rout one way or the other. Two of the world’s most talented squads laced with a fair dosage of Josep Guardiola narrative should make for an absolute classic.
Manchester City have not been at their best of late, however. Anything like their recent performances will not be sufficient for victory at the Camp Nou, despite the fact Barcelona have not been at their best themselves for much of this season. Then again, Luis Enrique’s side did annihilate Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend.
An open game with the quality that these two sides possess? Yes please. Maybe these line-ups can produce a special night in Catalonia…
