The Spaniard was announced as the Citizens’ new boss on 1 February after months of speculation surrounding his own future, and the situation of then chief, Manuel Pellegrini.

Guardiola saw out the remainder of 2015/16 with Bayern Munich before relocating to Manchester for pre-season, but despite having had plenty of time to devise his first-team plans his decision to drop Hart for both of his opening competitive games came as a shock.

Since then it’s been claimed that the 29-year-old is available to suitors, on the proviso that a replacement can be signed, which has led to talk of a loan switch to Everton.

And now reports suggest that Guardiola made his mind up regarding Hart some time ago, hinting that he has little chance of battling back into the ex-Barcelona coach’s plans.

The Man City boss is known to favour goalies adept in terms of having the ball at their feet, with Victor Valdes and Manuel Neuer having been his stoppers at Barcelona and Bayern.
