Former Manchester City star Uwe Rosler believes that Atletico Madrid’s Mario Mandzukic would be the ideal striker for his old club to sign in January.
The Sky Blues – who trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by three points – have been linked with a shock £25m raid for the Croatian hit-man, who only signed for the La Liga champions from Bayern Munich over the summer.
Manuel Pellegrini is understood to have made securing a new marksman next month a priority, with Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko’s absences having led to the Chilean being forced to use James Milner as a ‘false nine’ and youngster Jose Pozo.
Mandzukic has already hit 14 goals in 22 league outings for Atleti, and Rosler, who watched the forward during his Bayern days, feels that he would be ideally suited to English football:
“I know him [Mario Mandzukic] a little bit from his time at Bayern Munich.” He told talkSPORT. “He’s a typical No. 9. He’s a box player and will score goals. He’s a physical presence and he’s made for the English game.
“I think [with Manchester City] having only three Premier League strikers, there is probably one missing and I think to have a real go [at winning the Premier League] it would probably be a good option to see what happens in January and who is available.”
