In easily the pick of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Manchester United play hosts to reigning champions Manchester City at Old Trafford for the hotly anticipated Manchester derby.
And there’s some good news for Citizens fans this afternoon – under-fire manager Manuel Pellegirni has finally ditched their dreaded 4-4-2 formation.
Many fear for the Chilean’s fate should his side succumb to an embarrassing result this afternoon, making it five away defeats in a row, and a significant factor in public opinion turning against him has been his perpetual insistence upon two centre-forwards.
It left the Etihad outfit unstuck against Barcelona in the Champions League and Crystal Palace in the Premier League last monday. But finally, Pellegrini has seen the error of his ways, dropping Edin Dzeko to make room for an extra midfielder.
City fans seemed pretty pleased on Twitter. Well, sort of:
Manuel Pellegrini finally changes his formation in a big game….though last time he did that Arsenal beat them 2-0.

Pellegrini has started City’s strongest formation with more creativity in the team and Aguero has a bigger chance of scoring today

No complaints with players Pellegrini has selected but I hope the formation is a 4-2-3-1, with both Silva and Yaya starting a bit deeper.

Pellegrini going with a diamond, hexagon, octagon formation. I like the flexibility of that
