Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala has revealed that he received an approach from Manchester City in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
The Citizens were linked with the young Frenchman in the build up to deadline day, as manager Manuel Pellegrini set about solving his centre-back crisis.
Mangala was also the subject of interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Barcelona, making him one of the most sought after players in Europe.
The Porto man has now revealed that City made a move to lure him to the Premier League, but he says that he is fully committed to the Portuguese champions.
“Manchester City were interested a few days ago, but nothing was ever close,” he is quoted by Sky Sports via A Bola.
“I’m a Porto player and I feel good here. I have no problem with this issue.
“I am fine here and focused on what we can do this season.”
The 22-year-old impressed for Porto last season and, having sold both Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez to Monaco in big money deals, they were under no pressure to allow him to leave.
City instead swooped for Argentine veteran Martin Demichelis, who played under Pellegrini at Malaga last season.
Should Manchester City return for Eliaquim Mangala in January?
