Mario Gotze

Reports in Germany are claiming that Manchester City are in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze this summer, according to the Guardian.

The 20-year-old Germany attacking midfielder, who has scored 14 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions this season, has attracted the interests of several top European clubs as his side have marched to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, German magazine Kicker is reporting that Gotze's agent Volker Struth has already started negotiations with City's director of football Txiki Begiristain over a potential move to the Etihad Stadium.

It is thought City are willing to activate Gotze's 40 million euros release clause at BvB and it would be down to the player to decide if he would like to make the move.

But, with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid thought to be on hot on their heels, City could face some fierce competition to get the player on board.
