Manchester City’s move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan could lie in tatters following his horrific knee injury, according to reports in the Sun.
The German pass master was widely thought to have been a major target for incoming boss Pep Guardiola, who will have viewed him at close quarters during his three year stint in charge of Bayern Munich.
A £30m move is thought to have been nearing completion as his deal at Signal Iduna Park enters its final year, while he was also linked with Liverpool.
However, the 25-year old midfielder dislocated his kneecap in training and will now miss the rest of the season as well as Germany’s Euro 2016 campaign.
He missed the World Cup in Brazil back in 2014 with a back injury and it is claimed his ongoing issues could wreck a potential move to the Etihad this summer.
Major changes are expected under Guardiola, who will take Manuel Pellegrini’s place in charge after what has been a disappointing season.
