Incoming Man City boss targets surprise move for Arsenal first-team star

Pep Guardiola is keen to add Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta to his backroom staff when he officially takes over at Manchester City this summer, according to reports from The Times.

The Spanish tactician will formally succeed Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season when his deal with Bayern Munich expires, and he’s believed to be plotting moves to kick off his reign in a successful manner.

One man he reportedly wants is Arsenal’s Arteta, but not in a playing capacity.

The 33-year-old midfielder has endured an injury-ravaged campaign in north London and looks set to hang up his boots at the end of the season when his contact with the Gunners expires.

It’s understood that Arteta and Guardiola are good friends and that the veteran playmaker has recently visited the ex-Barcelona coach at Bayern’s training ground to discuss future plans.

Should the former Everton man relocate to Man City, he would follow in the footsteps of, albeit not in the same manner, Samir Nasri, Bacary Sagna, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, and Gael Clichy, who all moved from the capital to the sky blue North West outfit.
