Man City battle to sign Spanish youngster

Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is hoping to win the battle to sign highly rated Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to talkSPORT.

However, City will face stiff competition to sign the Spanish playmaker after Italian giants Juventus joined the race for his signature this week and only time will tell which side will convince the talented youngster to join their ranks.

Obiang is on the brink of breaking into the senior Spanish national team after impressive performances in Serie A this season as well as being capped for the under-21s.

The 21-year-old is expected to leave Sampdoria, who he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2008, no matter what this summer and so a bidding war may begin between two of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Mancini is desperate to revamp his underachieving City squad this summer and a number of high profile players will come and go as the Blue half of Manchester look to win back the Premier League next season.
