Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini believes his squad played without much energy following their 1-1 draw with relegation threatened side Newcastle United.
Star striker Sergio Aguero netted his fourth in two games following a hat-trick against Chelsea to give his side the lead.
However, the Magpies managed to fight their way back courtesy of an equaliser from Vurnon Anita, which saw the match end at 1-1.
Pellegrini admitted that his team went into the match very tired and were therefore unable to replicate the performance which saw them beat the Blues 3-0 last weekend.
“We knew before the game that it would be a tough game,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“I didn’t see the energy that we had on Saturday. It was too much repeating just three days after the Chelsea game. At the end of the season it’s not easy for the players to recover 100 per cent.”
The result could now see Arsenal, who face West Bromwich Albion tomorrow, overtake them to move into third in the Premier League table if they manage to pick up all three points.
Newcastle have been boosted by the result given that they are now two points away from Norwich City in 17th place as they continue their fight to avoid relegation.
