Man City boss taunts rival ahead of derby

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has stoked the flames before this weekend’s Manchester derby by suggesting that Manchester Untied have not improved under Louis van Gaal this season.

Despite being the highest spenders in Europe during the summer transfer window, bringing in the lieks of Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Luke Shaw for hefty fees, the Red Devils have struggled so far this season, and Pellegrini has not hesitated to have a dig at his side’s fierce rivals ahead of Sunday’s game.

When Pellegrini was asked if United were stronger than last season the Manchester City boss said: “Similar. I think that both teams are similar.

“I think Manchester United bought very important players this year. I think also they are at the moment where you start with a new manager and new players, which is not easy.

“Maybe the same thing happened with me last year, so I think they (United) are in a similar moment.”

The Manchester derby comes at a crucial time for both clubs, with City aiming to cut the gap with league leaders Chelsea and United hoping to remain in the race for the Champions League qualification places.
