Fernandinho impressed in Shakhtar’s Champions League campaign earlier this season and is now believed to be on the verge of a move to the Etihad Stadium.
Reports in Italy claim City agreed terms with the player and the Ukrainian side in January ahead of a summer transfer.
Boss Roberto Mancini has stressed he is keen to secure his top targets as early as possible in the transfer window and it would appear as if Fernandinho is set to move to City as soon as the Premier League transfer window reopens.
City have also been linked with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Marco Reus, Erik Lamela and others in recent weeks and the club are expected to spend heavily this summer after failing to defend the Premier League title and performing poorly in the Champions League.
