Man City eye £20m ace to solve home-grown problems

Manchester City are plotting a shock move for impressive Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, who could give the club a big boost in terms of home grown numbers, according to reports from the Sunday People.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an excellent 2015/16 with the Saints, stepping up to play a vital first-team role under Ronald Koeman after the exit of Adam Lallana.

His showings have been key in the South Coast side’s chase for European football, and appear to have alerted City.

The Sky Blues are already low on home grown players for domestic and European action, and their issues will worsen should James Milner leave on a free transfer this summer.

Ward-Prowse, although relatively unproven, is thought to be seen as an option, with an offer of around £20m being put together.

The starlet only signed a new contract at St Mary’s over the winter.

Everton’s Ross Barkley is also a target for the Premier League champions.
