Manchester City fans are buzzing with news that Raheem Sterling will miss England's game on Thursday after an altercation with Liverpool man Joe Gomez.

It has been reported that emotions seemed to boil over from the weekend clash, with Sterling causing a disturbance in a private team area. As a result, Gareth Southgate will rest the winger for the upcoming clash with Montenegro.

The City superstar has been in mesmerising form over the past couple of years and has established himself as one of Europe's best in the process. Now, the City faithful are pleased he will get a deserved rest this week.

One fan has simply put he "finally gets a rest", as another supporter touched on how there is "no chance of injury" with him sitting in the stands.

Sterling's 14 goals in 16 appearances this season have made him an essential ingredient to the title-chasing squad under Pep Guardiola.

It has, however, also meant that the 24-year-old has rarely been afforded a chance to rest. The winger has started every league game and played in every Champions League match, whilst even starting one EFL Cup tie.
