Man City get merked by dictionary corner – new low?

Countdown panelist Susie Dent chipped in on Man City’s one-man mauling by Lionel Messi to pour some salt on the Barclays Premier League side’s wounds. The star of the Channel 4 show offered up the etymology of the word ‘nutmeg’ for all those interested after the Barcelona forward had managed to complete the trick an incredible nine times in 45 minutes of football against Manchester City.

Messi produced an incredible virtuoso performance to put Man City to the sword in the first half and prove why he’s viewed as the greatest player in the world by many. The Argentinean was part of almost everything his side did going forward and provided the assist for Ivan Rakitic’s opening goal.

Things do not bode well for Manchester City as they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 14 Champions League games (2-0 v Roma, December 2014). Manuel Pellegrini’s side have also never made it past the last 16, and again this doesn’t look like it’s going to be their year.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have won seven of their last eight home games in the Champions League games, with their last defeat coming against Bayern Munich in May 2013. However, City will undoubtably keep going once their are minutes on the clock.
