Manchester City and Chelsea are both hot on the trail of Juventus playmaker Miralem Pjanic to bolster their midfields, according to Italian outlet TuttoSport.

What's the story, then?

Maurizio Sarri's influence saw Chelsea convince Jorginho to snub a move to the Premier League champions, so Pep Guardiola has reportedly turned his attention to the Juve playmaker.

However, the Blues are also in the hunt for the 5ft 10in maestro, after Sarri stated that he believes the squad he has inherited at Stamford Bridge lacks midfield quality.

TuttoSport claim that the Serie A holders are preparing to lose the midfielder by keeping an eye on Paul Pogba, Mateo Kovacic and Adrien Rabiot as potential replacements.

Many Chelsea fans would like to sign Pjanic

Previously, Football FanCast asked Chelsea fans whether Pjanic would be an upgrade on Chelsea's best current playmaker Cesc Fabregas and the enthusiasm was clear.

86 per cent of them said that the Juventus man would be a superior option to the Spaniard, as you can see from the full poll results below.

That means that City could land a major blow in the transfer market after suffering a setback with the Jorginho affair, where Guardiola must have been certain he would land the Italian, before Sarri's late intervention.
