Man City ready to beat Arsenal to £28.8m strike star

Manchester City have joined Arsenal in the race for Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 22-year-old shone last term in an underperforming Nerazzurri side and has been the spearhead of their charge to the top of Serie A this season.

Reports have claimed that Arsenal are extremely keen on the Argentine as they look towards January, but now it has been suggested that City are ready to thrash out a £28.8m deal at the end of the season.

Such a move may appeal to Inter, who are sure to be desperate to keep him for at least the remainder of 2015/16.

Manuel Pellegrini has been short of forward options on multiple occasions this term, with Sergio Aguero’s injury issues and the summer sale of Edin Dzeko having left him with only Wilfried Bony, who has struggled at the Etihad Stadium since joining the Citizens from Swansea at the start of the year.
