The Sky Blues forward ran the show at the Etihad Stadium and could have had five on the day has it not been for the heroics of Hugo Lloris in the Lilywhites’ goal – he saved a penalty from the Argentine.
Aguero’s efforts saw him move joint top of the Premier League’s scoring charts alongside Chelsea’s Diego Costa, with some already predicting that the two hit-men will have the ultimate say in where the title goes in may.
Speaking after the final whistle, Pellegrini celebrated his player’s performances, describing his as one of the very best:
“I said before this game and now that in Sergio we have one of the three or four best strikers in the world.” He told talkSPORT.
“It’s not easy for him when he had so many injuries in the last part of the season to perform like he did today. But I think this year we prepared him very well.
“In the first three games he didn’t start, he was just involved for 30 or 40 minutes but now he’s 100 per cent fit and he’s working the whole week as normal.
“He decided the first title here with Manchester City, last year he was very important when he was fit and I hope this year he will fight to be one of the best players in the world.”
