Man City to battle Barca for Brazilian star

Manchester City are ready to take on Barcelona in the race for Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, according to reports from talkSPORT.

Sky Blues chief Manuel Pellegrini is known to be desperate to add a top-class centre-back to partner Vincent Kompany, with Eliaquim Mangala having long been dubbed the player on his way to the Etihad Stadium.

However a deal for the Frenchman appears to be stalling, which has opened the door for an alternative target.

Marquinhos is seen as that, with the Brazilian’s future at PSG unclear.

The Parisians have recently swooped for David Luiz, and the most expensive defender in the history of the game is set to slot in alongside Thiago Silva at the back.

Marquinhos is only 20, yet he’s unlikely to be ready for a role on the bench after only being at the Parc des Princes for a year.

Barca are rumoured to have made him their top target, but a reported move for Daniel Agger may allow City to sneak in for the South American.
