Man City to turn to Argentine enforcer

Martin Demichelis (Atletico Madrid)Manchester City are ready to turn to Atletico Madrid’s Martin Demichelis after growing frustrated in their attempts to lure Portuguese international Pepe to the club, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Citizens chief Manuel Pellegrini has been chasing the Real Madrid man for much of the summer as he looks to add greater solidarity to his backline.

But, with the transfer window drawing to a close and a deal being nowhere near completion, the Chilean is ready to switch his attention to Demichelis – who is yet to play a game for Atletico.

The Argentine recently moved to the Spanish capital from Malaga, but is already willing to leave to join City.

The 32-year-old has played under Pellegrini for the last two years and is known to have a huge level of respect for his fellow South American.

Even though they are yet to field the ex-Bayern Munich man – who they signed on a free transfer around a month ago – Atletico could be willing to do business for around £3m.

Pellegrini is said to be tempted to force a deal due to a lack of central defensive options.

With Matija Nastasic injured, Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott are the club’s only established options for the opening stages of the 2013/14 Premier League season.
