Man United’s failed move opens door for Man City to land Guardiola favourite

Manchester City may set up a summer reunion between Pep Guardiola and Thiago Alcantara now that Bayern Munich have signed Renato Sanches from Benfica, according to reports from Kicker.

The 18-year-old finalised a shock move to the Bundesliga champions today amid suggestions that Manchester United pulled the plug on their long talked about swoop for the teenager.

The reason behind the Red Devils’ supposed cold feet is as of yet unknown, but reports already claim that Sanches’ switch could have a positive knock-on effect for Man City, who may move for Thiago.

The Portuguese starlet plays in a central midfield role, so his addition will swell the already significant numbers in the Bavarians’ engine room further, which may push the Spaniard out.

Guardiola, who will succeed Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium this summer, is known to be a massive fan of the playmaker, whom he used frequently while at Barcelona and then took to Bayern with him.

The Sanches move may also influence the futures of Mario Gotze and Sebastian Rode at the Allianz Arena.
