Manchester City boss rules out striker sale

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has moved to quash rumours that Edin Dzeko will be sold in January.

The Bosnian striker has featured infrequently this term, prompting speculation of a move to Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund or Inter Milan.

Dzeko was reassured of his future at the club by Pellergini over the summer, but has found himself playing second fiddle to the in-form Sergio Aguero and recent arrival Alvaro Negredo – who have netted 28 goals between them.

Despite Dzeko spending much of his time on the bench, the City boss says that he has no intention of letting him go.

“No, that is not the case [that Dzeko could be sold],” Mancini told The Telegraph.

“I put my trust in him before the season and I have just as much trust in him now. It is very important for this club to have a good squad because we have a lot of games to play from now until April and, if we want to win trophies, we need important players.

“Maybe at the moment he is not playing as much as he would like, but he remains an important part of the squad.”

Arsenal have been linked with Dzeko in recent times, with Arsene Wenger thought to see the former Wolfsburg man as an ideal addition to his table-topping squad.
