New City boss Manuel Pellegrini is set to break the £100million of spending with his latest addition after big money moves for Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic which came to a combined total of £92million.
Real Madrid defender Pepe is the Chileans top target and City are set to test the water with a £15million bid this weekend as the Blues face Sunderland in the final of the Premier League Asia trophy.
Last season’s Premier League runners up allowed Kolo Toure to join Liverpool on a free this summer and so are short of one centre back to complete their squad although versatile Micah Richards is back from long term injury.
Pellegrini knows that his squad is not yet complete and is hoping to do some business in the coming days.
“The club has spent money on important players, like Stevan and Negredo,” said Pellegrini.
“But we must remind you that last year here there was Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez.
“So we had to replace two very good players with another two very good players.
“We have the whole month of July and some days of August to finish completely the squad.”
