Manchester City dealt transfer blow

iker-casillasManchester City’s hopes of luring Iker Casillas to the Etihad Stadium in January have been dealt a blow, with Schalke now keen on the goalkeeper, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Sky Blues have been linked with a move for the experienced Spaniard of late, following his exclusion from Real Madrid’s first-team.

Despite being the La Liga giants’ captain, Casillas has lost his starting spot to Diego Lopez and looks to have a fight on his hands to force his way ahead of his former understudy.

With the World Cup looming, rumours that the 32-year-old is ready to leave the Bernabeu in search of regular action have begun to circulate.

City chief Manuel Pellegrini is thought to see him as an ideal replacement for Joe Hart, who has made an error-strewn start to the season.

But, Schalke are now ready to make a move for Casillas.

The German side signed former Real hero Raul in 2010, and are hopeful that they can repeat the same trick to lure his former team-mate to Gelsenkirchen.

Pellegrini worked with Casillas when he was in charge of Los Blancos, and is thought to be an admirer of his abilities.
