Manchester City eye £30m January move

Eliaquim Mangala (Porto)Manchester City are planning a £30m move for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala as soon as the January transfer window opens, according to reports from the Daily Star.

City chief Manuel Pellegrini eyed the French centre-back during the summer, but was deterred from making a move by the Portuguese giants’ demands.

He instead swooped for Martin Demichelis, but the veteran enforcer has already suffered a serious knee injury.

As a result, Pellegrini is desperate to solve his defensive woes as soon as possible, and is keen to formulate a deal for Mangala as soon as the transfer window reopens.

The 22-year-old has a £40m buyout clause, but City are believed to be willing to pay £30m up front with a series of add-ons to follow.

Porto will be in no rush to sell after receiving £70m for Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez over the summer, but could be tempted to make a significant profit on the man they signed in 2011 from Standard Liege.

However, Pellegrini will have to fight off interest from Barcelona, who are tracking the highly-rated youngster.

Manchester United are also interested, but it is believed that their transfer focus will involve the acquisition of a creative midfield player.

Manchester City fans, would Eliaquim Mangala be a wise investment?
