Manchester City face summer battle as Madrid wait in the wings

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)Manchester City are set for a battle to keep Sergio Aguero at the Etihad Stadium next summer, with Real Madrid having made him their top target, according to reports from The Sun.

The Spanish giants are believed to be on the lookout for a world-class striker to complete a fearsome attacking threesome with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, and are said to be willing to spend £48m on the Argentine.

Despite Karim Benzema’s improving form, Carlo Ancelotti is said to see Aguero as the missing piece of his Bernabeu jigsaw, and have been impressed by his razor-sharp start to the Premier League season.

The 25-year-old himself is rumoured to be open to a return to La Liga, where he carved out a reputation as one of European football’s top marksmen with Real’s city rivals, Atletico Madrid.

Aguero recently penned a long-term deal with the Sky Blues, but Los Blancos are hopeful that a mega money offer may tempt City to sell.

The Citizens are unlikely to be willing to entertain a deal, but may be force to reach an agreement if the player himself opts to pursue a switch.

Should Manchester City even consider selling Sergio Aguero?
