Manchester City fans confused by plans to offer Mangala contract extension

In a team full of star-studded talent, it can be hard for some members of the squad to cement a regular spot in the first team.

Eliaquim Mangala arrived at Manchester City in 2014 with plenty of promise following his club-record £42m switch, but he failed to deliver.

The defender had loan spells at Valencia and was sent to Everton for the second half of last season.

Unfortunately, though, the 27-year-old suffered a serious knee injury in just his second outing for the Toffees, and he did not play again that season.

It is safe to say that Mangala will not be a regular in Pep Guardiola’s team any time soon, but according to the Daily Star, City are considering offering the Frenchman a contract extension.

The defender has now entered the final year of his deal, which means that if another club wanted him next summer, he could join them on a free transfer.

It could be a case of City wanting to make sure that they get some financial benefits if Mangala was to leave, but even so, plenty of fans on Twitter are confused by the club’s stance.
