Pep Guardiola handed Leroy Sane his first start of the new Premier League season yesterday against Fulham. The reigning league champions dispatched Fulham 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium and it was Sane himself who opened the scoring for Manchester City.
Having had to wait until the fifth game of the new campaign before being included from the off, it took the German attacker all of 96 seconds to put the side in sky blue ahead.
Last season, Sane won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for his brilliant contribution to City’s record breaking campaign. However, the 22-year-old endured a disappointing summer having been omitted from Germany’s World Cup squad.
Sane is a player of supreme talent, but with competition for starting places more intense than ever at the Etihad, he must maintain the level he is currently performing at if he wishes to remain in the starting XI.
After the match against Fulham, many City fans took to Twitter to praise Sane’s triumphant return to the fold…
Imagine thinking Mbappe is better…. could never be me
