Manchester City had a quiet transfer window by their standards as they recruited just the one first-team addition in the form of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

The Algerian was brought in to provide competition for Raheem Sterling, whose future has come under the microscope once again.

After being criticised for his performances in an England shirt during the World Cup, the winger came back with a bang on Sunday as he scored in City's 2-0 victory over Arsenal in their Premier League opener.

Once the final whistle blew, Sterling's contract situation became a talking point in Pep Guardiola's post-match press conference, with The Telegraph reporting that the former Liverpool star wants wages in the region of £300,000-a-week.

Guardiola told the press that he wants Sterling to stay put, but at the moment it does not appear that he is any closer to signing fresh terms.

The transfer window is closed for English clubs trying to buy players, but the European markets are still open, which means that top stars in the Premier League can still be poached abroad.

On Reddit, some City fans discussed what they believe is going on in the Sterling contract saga.
