Ilkay Gundogan has struggled to win over every Manchester City fan since his arrival at the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

The midfielder was dealt an early injury blow, but since recovering, the Germany international, who has earned 26 caps for his country, has failed to hold down a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s team.

In fact, Gundogan started just 15 Premier League matches and came off the bench in a further 15 to play a role in the club’s title triumph.

Guardiola has plenty of talented players at his disposal, so the ones in contention need to be on top form in order to secure a regular place.

Gundogan, who scored six goals and created three assists in all competitions last season, has put in some solid performances.

However, there is an argument that the 27-year-old would not be missed, and some fans are wondering whether the club should sell to Barcelona.

A report in The Sun on Friday claimed that the Catalan giants want Gundogan to replace Andres Iniesta, and would have to pay in excess of £50m.

While some fans are open to it, others are keen for the midfielder to stay put.
