For weeks, the widespread media reported that Jorginho was Manchester City’s top target.
Pep Guardiola is believed to have wanted the midfielder to share Fernandinho’s responsibilities in the middle of the park.
However, the Italian ended up following his Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea.
On Sunday afternoon, the midfielder went up against City in the Community Shield, and he was on the losing side in a 2-0 scoreline at Wembley.
Guardiola’s charges impressed in the clash, proving that they are ready to begin the defence of their Premier League title.
As the match was essentially a pre-season friendly, City could afford to play some of their fringe players, and one in particular proved that he deserves first-team minutes.

Phil Foden more than held his own against the opposition, and some City fans suggested that the 18-year-old is of better quality than Jorginho, who failed to make a significant impact.
Of course, these fans are basing it on just one fixture, and it will take time for Chelsea’s new boy to find his feet.
Lots of City supporters, though, seem relieved that the club failed to land Jorginho.
