Manchester City hit with injury blow

David Silva

Manchester City playmker David Silva is set to miss Sunday’s Manchester derby as he is yet to recover from a thigh strain, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Spaniard picked up the knock on international duty two weeks ago and has missed crucial Premier League and Champions League games already, but City had hoped the 27 year old would be fit for the derby.

Captain Vincent Kompany is fit to start but Silva, along with defender Micah Richards, will be in the stands as the old enemy come to the Etihad in the biggest game of the Premier League season so far.

Silva will be given a late fitness test but boss Manuel Pellegrini is doesn’t think his star midfielder will make the game that could shape City’s season after poor results at Cardiff and Stoke.

“David Silva and Micah Richards are both back in training but Sunday is likely to come too soon for either to be involved in the squad,” Pellegrini said.
