Manchester City move in for Mancini successor

Manuel PellegriniManchester City officials have reportedly already held talks with potential new boss Manuel Pellegrini since Roberto Mancini’s sacking.

The current Malaga chief has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium since the turn of the year with speculation intensifying earlier this month when his agent Jesus Martinez met up with City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain for dinner in Madrid.

Reports emerged over the weekend that Mancini was facing the sack following City’s FA Cup final defeat to Wigan on Saturday, while Pellegrini then spoke out on Monday to deny a deal was in place for him to succeed the Italian.

However with Mancini’s sacking confirmed on Monday evening, the Chilean tactician remains the hot favourite to take over the reins at City this summer.

There has been no word from City, Pellegrini, his agent or Malaga about an imminent appointment, but local Spanish newspaper Malaga Hoy has reported that the 59-year-old met with City representatives in a restaurant in Benalmadena late on Monday just as Mancini was receiving his marching orders.

Therefore it appears to be only a matter of time before he is announced as City’s new boss with Malaga poised to pick up around £3.5million in compensation.
