Manchester City planning audacious Real Madrid raid

Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)Manchester City are plotting an ambitious January move for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane amid concerns surrounding Vincent Kompany’s fitness, according to reports from The Metro.

The Sky Blues captain’s season has been blighted by injury problems so far, which is believed to be a serious cause of concern for Manuel Pellegrini.

Although the South American still sees his skipper as key man, he is keen to bring in a top class player to fill in during his absence and form a solid combination with him in the future.

Varane Is thought to have caught his eye, and could be the subject of a serious move over the winter.

The 20-year-old is highly-rated in the Spanish capital, but City are hopeful that a £25m offer may be enough to tempt them to sell as they look to fund a move for a striker – Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is a top target – during the coming transfer windows.

Real may also look to push a deal for Sergio Aguero, and could be open to a player plus cash deal for the Argentine.

City are also monitoring Ezequiel Garay of Benfica, but may face competition from local rivals Manchester United for the defender.

Meanwhile, Malaga’s Willy Caballero could be signed as a replacement for Joe Hart.

Could Manchester City really lure Raphael Varane away from Real Madrid?
