Manchester City receive blow in race for Spanish starlet

Malaga playmaker IscoManchester City’s hopes of sealing a summer deal for Malaga’s Isco hang in the balance, with news that Real Madrid are in talks with the playmaker, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Citizens have been trailing the 21-year-old for some time, and it has been speculated that Manuel Pellegrini’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium – which could be formally announced this weekend – could boost their chances of agreeing a deal due to his relationship with the player.

But, Real are now firmly in the hunt, with reports suggesting that contact has already been made between the La Liga giants and the youngster’s representatives.

The Bernabeu outfit are set to undergo a summer of upheaval in a bid to overhaul Barcelona and become Spain’s dominant club force, and it is believed that they see Isco as key to their plans.

Although the midfielder views Pellegrini as a ‘father figure’, he could be tempted to stay in his homeland in a bid to book a spot in the national squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

It is understood that City will not give up in their pursuit however, and are still hopeful that they can convince Isco that his future lies in the Premier League.

City have already been busy in the transfer market, agreeing deals for Jesus Navas and Fernandinho.
