Manchester City relaxed about Toure contract

Manchester City midfielder Yaya ToureManchester City are relaxed about claims that Yaya Toure is on the verge of leaving the club, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Ivorian midfielder’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, claimed that his client is ready to quit the Premier League champions, unless he is offered a new contract by this weekend.

He also said that the 29-year-old, who earns in excess of £200,000-per-week, feels unappreciated at City.

Negotiations regarding a new deal for Toure have been ongoing for the last six months, with the club appearing to be in no rush to extend his contract, which expires in 2015.

Seluk told The Sun: “If he signs a contract in the next three or four days, OK. If not, we will not wait any longer and will start negotiations with different clubs,

“Today is Tuesday, so it means by Saturday. We will say ‘Thank you. OK, Yaya will leave in May.’

“I do not feel he will stay at City. This is not about money. He wants to leave because of many reasons.”

Despite these claims, Sky sources believes that City are relaxed about the situation, and will not be pushed into forcing through a deal quickly.

Toure, who joined City from Barcelona in a £24m deal during 2010, has been successful at the Etihad Stadium, playing a key role in their FA Cup and Premier League successes in recent times.

A series of injuries, and a spell away at the Africa Cup of Nations, have seen his form dip this term, but he is still regarded as a key player under manager Roberto Mancini.
