The England international’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and, as of yet, there has been no talk of extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
With the emergence of Matija Nastasic, the form of Vincent Kompany and the arrival of Martin Demichelis, Lescott’s future has been in some doubt.
But, the 31-year-old has revealed that he hopes to stay with the Citizens and sign a new contract.
“I want to stay and be part of the future,” Lescott said.
“But I understand there’s the business side of it and if it’s not to be, I will walk away from the club with my head held high and no regrets.
“Nothing would please me more than to sign an extension. If that negotiation ever happens, I will be there with my pen ready to sign.”
Lescott moved to City in 2009 in a £22m deal from Everton following some impressive displays.
He was instrumental in the club’s 2010/11 Premier League win, forming a strong partnership with Kompany.
He has since been linked with a return to Goodison Park, where he is still held in high regard.
