Manchester City to reignite transfer pursuit

Kurt Zouma (Saint Etienne)Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is set to up his interest in Saint Etienne centre-Back Kurt Zouma once the transfer window re-opens, according to reports from the Sunday People.

The Chilean is desperate to land a new defender after a stuttering start to the Premier League season.

Argentine ace Martin Demichelis was signed over the summer, but is currently sidelined through injury leaving Pellegrini short on back up to first choice pairing Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic.

Zouma was the subject of interest from City throughout the last transfer window, with the Sky Blues having been impressed by the 18-year-old’s Ligue 1 displays.

The teenager has quickly emerged as one of France’s top talents, and is widely expected to break into the nation’s senior set-up in the not too distant future.

Pellegrini is a fan of his physical playing style and the fact that he will be eligible to play for City in Europe in the new year.

A £7m offer is being readied, however Saint Etienne are in no rush to sell.

The French outfit allowed star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave over the summer, meaning that only a large transfer fee is likely to persuade them to let their starlet move.

Could Kurt Zouma be the future of Manchester City’s defence?
